Overnighter
Needed to test how the truck pulled now!

  • Previously the truck weighed over 6400lb without the trailer
    3400lb Steer
    3000lb Drive

  • Then with the toy hauler heading out of town with leftover water from last trip.
    3420 Steer
    3660 Drive
    6320 Trailer Axles

  • For a total of 13400lb. That puts the trailer at 7000lb for this pull.

  • The pull was great! ... Plenty of power for all but the one steep pull over hilltop or highland valley summit but only on the return side! Hard to get a run at it ... after the bridge ... and almost pulled the top in 3rd but the TQ finally came unlocked with a touch too much gas. Rather than try hold the speed limit with the TQ slipping, I did the sensible thing and slowed down and geared down.

  • Got one of the efans to kick on toward the top of hilltop.

  • In the dirt a slow, bumpy, twisty, 2200ft pull up to the summit and a bit over 70 degrees outside I got both fans to kick on for a steep rough climb stretch.  The temp needle on the dash was still just straight up and didn't move, ever ... you can't tell the difference from 195 to 220 ... maybe a slight hair of a change ... but not enough to really tell.

    • My antifreeze tester put me over 168 degrees boil over temp and freeze better than -48 degrees.  That's more than a 50% mix! Not ideal ... will need to reduce the mix in favor of water for better cooling properties, say to 30%!

    • Maybe even try some wetter water!?

  • Last trip averaged 8.8mpg with a peak of 9.5 for 4 fill-ups ... this trip the calculation was 11.5mpg with about 80mi or so non-towing but yet very hard driving (new stuff and all)!? Would be nice if it stayed near 11 for towing!

My biggest nugget yet on 06/05/05!
And this place has been HAMMERED BAD!

That hole is around a 16" or so to granite bedrock.
